Friend needs help bought a new stove two pieces.Will use 40 amp box off floor for the stove top,but need extra box on wall for 20 amp #8 wire for lower stove part oven.What size box to use #8 wire bx cable and where to place on wall??? Jeff.

A 4 11/16 square box with 3/4" KO. use a 3/4" bx connector and don't forget the red head inside the bx. Mount on the back wall so it's accessible from the front drawer. Use a piece of flex to the terminals. Breakers are 40 amp two pole common trip and 20 amp two pole common trip

got to thinking about that range top - the supply is 240 volts across the two heavy leads, but there was no ground mentioned. Since the bare or white wire is already connected to the neutral bus, why not make it the grounding conductor for the equipment? use a screw lug to ground it at the stove location to the cabinet ground. the new stove top must have a ground connection. that way you'll be protected if something should happen to the elements. do the same with the lower unit. just make sure the bare ground or white is connected to the neutral bar at the breaker panel before you start flipping breakers ON.
