I'm trying to replace a light switch with a dimmer switch and things don't look quite like I expected, and I'm not sure exactly how to hook this up.
There are 3 sets of wires coming into the box - each with a white (neutral?), black (hot?) and bare copper (ground). The 3 white wires are twisted together and not hooked up to the switch in the box, the same w/ the 3 copper wires. The three black wires are connected to the current switch, one to one of the screws on the side, and the other 2 pushed in the connections on the back. There are electrical outlets in the same room and in a different room on the same breaker.
Now, on my dimmer (single pole), I have 2 blacks and 1 green (for the ground). I'm not sure exactly how this is supposed to work but I think I need hook 2 of the black wires from the box to one of the blacks on the dimmer, and then the other black to the other black on the dimmer - then run the green to the ground wires that are twisted together......
Or.... I have no clue.....
Thanks for any help.
