bathroom light and fan are not working

The light and ceiling fan in my bathroom stopped working, but the electrial outlet still works. I have checked the light switch and all seems to be OK. Any idea's. FYI.. I really know nothing about electrical work

It's hard to say where to start.
The receptacle is possibly not on the same circuit. Is there anything else that does not work?
Do you know what breaker the bath light is on?
    How old is the house?

From what I recall, bathroom lighting circuits are not on a dedicated line. I think it is fed off the supply to the gfci circuit. this may be a backwired outlet or off the top of the outlet to the switch. neutral is white, black is hot. the wiring box for the fixture is a bunch of wires and wirenuts. check the wirenuts. the neutrals may have come loose.
