want to impress girl

she has a hall light with two single switches at seperate locations. she would like to turn one of the single switches into a switch and outlet combo. the box has one cable coming into the box with a black,white,red and ground wire. i got a 3-way combo unit that has a line side. a load side. and two black wires coming from the unit. i really don't want to burn her house down. Help!

in that box you wish to convert you MUST have a neutral wire. if you don't yer out of luck and must fish in a new wire.

You 100% absolutely positively can NOT do what you want with the wires as they are.
You need a constant 120v feed with hot and neutral from the same cable. This does NOT exist in that box.
