  • Generator Brushes Wearing Too Soon

I have a Briggs & Stratton EXL8000 generator. I keep having to replace the brushes. The "furthest in" brush (black wire) is always breaking and it appears that the casing for the brush melts. What could be the problem?

Sometimes it will work for a month. Other times a few days and even less.

What should I look for with the slip rings or should I.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

I looked on the briggs site and there is no product recall. the brush holder where it mounts on the end bell cage shouldn't melt as it is in direct line with air circulation. IF the brush material isn't spec but another material this could be what's burning it up and melting the holder. carbon is the brush of choice but a sintered bronze-carbon brush has lubricity associated with it. try that.
