    Spa Sub panel

Man... now i have really effed up. So i was wrong to assume the power box for the AC could be used for a spa? The electrician that i just spoke to gave me an ear full.
The power at the AC unit has 2 #6 and a bare ground. Is there any way i can make this location work for my spa? I tried to install a 50 spa sub panel but i don't the a insulated neutral wire. So the GFCI is not working correctly.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!!!

the air conditioner is straight 240 volt. the bare wire is an earth protection ground. It is not supposed to be used as a neutral even though it connects to the same bus in your main panel. a sub panel has its neutral isolated above the equipment or case ground. the enclosure or case ground needs its own ground [the bare wire] to an auxillary ground bar. for a sub panel you will need a four wire cable. #6-4 will do the trick unless you are really far away from the panelbox. no more than 3% voltage drop per 100 feet.
