We recently bought a 5Y/O home, and have noticed some issues with the outlets and switches. Some of the outlets, especially ones that appeared to have been used for a TV or computer have dark streaks on the covers and wall around them. All switch & outlet covers have some black stuff on them where switch or outlet protrude that wipes off. There is no sign of a fire or overheating that is obvious, but I am wondering if I should be replacing them. The parts are all made by Leviton and appear visually to have been installed properly

I've also come across air infiltration leaving marks around the outlet cover and were the outlet and cover meet.
Furnaces or AC on will suck air from the home if the insulation is 100% it allows air to be sucked in from the wall cavities via any hole it can find. Sometimes you will also see it around loose fitting door or window molding as well.
Just a thought.Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
Every day is a learning day.

There really should be NO black marks on any electrical outlet and if there are, signals problems.
Have a qualified electrician check the conductors and devices for signs of arcing or overloading.
