I'm trying to install a dishwasher, I've never done anything like this. The wires on the back coming seem to be just normal wall plug except that they are solid copper instead of fibrous, or multiple little ones.

Can I just splice like an extension cord wire on to their if I just cap the ends and wire it tightly?

looks like a second hand dishwasher that was hard wired. if your option is to use a cord and plug wire black to black, white to white and bare to green ground.

      Dishwashers do not come 'pre-wired'.

HayZee518 got this right in that you bought a used dishwasher and whomever you purchased it from left some of the old wiring connected.

You need to remove the lower access panel under the door located at the front of the dishwasher, then remove the cover to the wiring compartment.

This will expose where the existing wiring connections are made to the unit.

You need to remove the electric cable that is now attached to the unit in the wiring compartment and either:

      1. Rewire with a new cable from the dishwasher to the junction box
      2. Install an approved appliance cord from the wiring compartment to a receptacle on one of the small appliance branch circuits for your kitchen'
      3. Call and electrician.

Based on your complete lack of experience, I highly recommend option #3.

Oh my! This is just my lucky day. I also have this kind of problem and so glad that I came across to this forum. Now I won't worry anymore on what to do with my my dishwasher.
Many thanks to HayZee518 and manhattan42.
