  • Exhaust fan

    Hi everyone!

Recently, I have been turning my exhaust fan on for hours for ventilation. But it have suddenly stopped working. At first when it stopped, I just turned the fan and it started working again. But now it have completely stopped working. Is a replace imminent or is it a minor issue?

Does it make any sound? Or is it completely quiet?

As far as I remember, it was making a very low noise. This is when it was starting by manually moving the fan. But now it have completely gone quiet.

Given what you've described, I'd say we're likely looking at either a motor failure, seized bearings, or an electrical problem. The fact that it made some noise when you helped it along, but now won't budge at all, makes me lean towards a mechanical issue rather than electrical. It sounds like the motor or bearings were on their last legs, struggling to turn even with your help, and have now given up entirely.

If it were just an electrical problem, like a faulty switch or wiring issue, we probably wouldn't have seen that gradual decline in function. Those tend to be more all-or-nothing. However, I wouldn't completely rule out an electrical cause just yet. It's possible that a capacitor failure could lead to similar symptoms, where the motor struggles to start and eventually won't turn at all.

Given how things have progressed, I hate to say it, but it's looking like you might be in for a replacement. These symptoms often point to issues that are more expensive to repair than to just get a new fan. But I would recommend to get a professional's help. They might surprise you with a simple fix. Either way, at least you'll know for sure what you're dealing with.

        Hope this helps!
