  • Berber carpet on basement floor

I picked up a used berber carpet that I want to lay down on my basement floor. It doesnt cover the entire floor, about less then half of it. I was wondering is this a good or bad idea. I don't get any water in the basement but if I run the dehumidifer all day and night it will be filled by the next day. I do notice a chalk looking growth on the floor of basement and what looks to be a water stain outline where I had layed down some rubber locking mat that kids usually play on.

Will this carpet make mildew and mold?

I didn't know what a berber carpet was so I went searching on the web. The definition is there and I found this url. Read it if you want.

It will almost definately get wet...you't have to run the dehumidifier and probably put a subfloor down, or seal the concrete floor to get full life out of it Otherwise, when it get wet, it will eventually mildew and need to be replaced, so it is not the end of the world
