  • Linoleum Removal Question

I have an older home that was built in the 1920's. In my kitchen I have wood floors under 2 layers of limoleum. Part of the first layer of limoleum is paisly and was a popular design in the 1970's. I think the second layer is at least 10 years old. A few questions:

    1. What is the proper technique to remove both layers of limoleum?
    2. What tools do I need to do this job (crow bar to remove side panels, etc.)?
    3. Given the age of the first layer of linoleum, is there anything i can do to prevent it from taking part of the wood when io remove it (e.g., heat up the adhesive, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for your input.

You do not want to remove this floor yourself because of asbestos. If you want to be sure, get both pieces tested and make sure some of the adhesive is with it. Asbestos is not something to be fooled around with.
If you want to avoid it all together, take the floor down to the top layer of Lino and install new 1/4 underlay before starting your project.
Unless you go with a floating floor.
