  • Dumb question

I hope this is not too dumb of a question. I have pre-hung doors and a house with new drywall and no doors. Do I install the pre-hung doors first, before putting in the vinyl, carpet, and laminate flooring? If I hang the doors first, would taking them off the hinges work better for installing the flooring?

Thanks. I've never remodeled a house before and this forum has proven very helpful for a newbie.

inside doors should have removable pins in the hinges so take them off before installing carpet etc. then after you're done get a measurement from the top of the casing to the floor and subtract a quarter inch. then cut the door bottom with a skil saw.

If the doors are pre hung and "not" installed into the doorways install the flooring first then install the entire door (frame and all). This will give you the best finish door frame to new flooring and you won't have to cut the casing to install the laminate flooring.
