Heat pump outside unit shelter

Would it be a good thing to build an outside unit shelter just for
the winter time?

Thinking of building a pressure treated frame unit with plexiglass on top and three sides. Leaving the back toward the house open. I
would attach it to the platform that the unit is on.

problem with unit getting snow covered and freezing up. I would leave possibly six inches clearance all the way round.

Is this a bad idea or a good one?
