We hear a dripping sound that lasts a few minutes in the room below after the upstairs toilet is flushed. So far, there is no evidence of drywall damage. A seam is evident, but that could be settlement. The house is almost 9 years old. There is no water on the bathroom floor. All I can think of is the wax ring? Any ideas?

wax ring
unless the toilet has shifted in some way, the wax seal seals the connection between the porcelain and the metal or plastic flange.
dripping? I doubt its the seal because many of them have a reducer embedded in the wax forcing everything down the pipe.
if you have access from below, look at the fittings. maybe, just maybe there wasn't enough of cement applied and a joint or two is leaking.
for abs plastic the cement is a dark gray color. pvc plastic is white with a purple colored primer and clear cement or a purple or orange suspended solids cement.
