Can't remove hose splitter from vacuum breaker

I have hose splitters on both of my outdoor faucets. I need to remove the hose splitters from the faucets, but I am finding that some part of the vacuum breaker turns with splitter when I try to unscrew it. Do I need to replace the faucets entirely, or is there an easier remedy for my problem? Any help will be gratefully received.

You should be able to hold the vacuum breaker from turning with a pair of vise grips or pliers while unscrewing hose splitter.

try the above recommendation first.
if its still difficult to remove, the vacuum breaker is of a red bronze construction. the splitter is a white metal casting evident by a whitish deposit near the threads.
because of the dissimilarity of metals it may be "welded" for loss of a better word to the vacuum breaker.
use a kerosene based parts loosener and try the wrench again.
if this proves impossible then take a hacksaw and make two cuts at an angle to the hose spigot threads and cut almost to the hose bibb threads. now take a channel lock plier, actually two of them and twist off the splitter.
