Garbage Disposal AND Dishwasher not working?!?

My garbage disposal and dishwasher are not working. Neither unit makes any noise when turned on. Should I get an electrician or a plumber? I'm wondering if the issue is electrical because it is both units. I've reset the disposal, spun the blades to clear it out, stuck my hand in the unit to feel for anything in there even though im not supposed to (can't find anything). I checked the dishwasher wiring last night and didn't notice any loose wires. I don't have a tripped switch in the breaker panel. I've turned on all switches and tested the units to make sure I didn't just happen to have an unlabeled switch turned off that actually powered the two units. I'm hoping that I don't have two units that just happened to go bad at the same time.

Other notes... we recently replaced our water heater and kitcken faucet.

Any ideas? I'm really just trying to figure out if I need to get an electrician or a plumber and appliance repairman.

get a long extension cord if the units plug into a receptacle under the sink.
try connecting to the extension cord to see if THAT unit runs.
If there is a receptacle is that receptacle controlled by a switch?
Is the receptacle a gfi type? if so, try resetting it.
