  • Using heat tapes

Is it safe to use a pipe heating tape on 3/4 cpvc pipe.. Or is there risk of it being too hot and melting fittings, etc?

As always follow the manufacturers instructions on the heat tape, Heat tape can be used on cpvc pipe, but sometimes it needs an addition of a metallic tape, there are different procedures than as with copper pipe, the placement of the thermal switch is important so it reads the pipe temperature and not the ambient. Incorrect use of heat tapes could cause fires and worse. Read what the manufacturer recommends, the web site of the manufacturer is a good place to start. Or check with the seller. The pipe nor fittings will melt as the contained water will conduct the heat away, and temperatures if installed correctly are not high enough,

Thank you for the reply, akamothermick. that was my greatest concern..the melting factor. Is the metallic tape to insure a more complete heating i/e completely around the pipe?
