  • whining toilet & stuff in sink & broken light cove

hello. i accidentally flushed an ink pen down the toilet. We plunged, we snaked (closet auger). the toilet flushes as long as there's just water. but if we try to use it and flush toilet paper, it gets clogged again. Plus it makes a loud whining sound every time we flush it. we tried snaking it again and succeeded in getting the entire 15ft. snake in there, but still it whines. we've also noticed that our shower is draining slowly. can anyone help?

also, my kids dropped some toys down the sink. we tried a hanger & the snake, but to no avail. the sink drains properly, but because I know that there are toys down there, i want to get them out. i can't loosen the elbow (don't know the correct term) of the drain, underneath the sink, but the pipes seem to be plastic and they seem to be sealed so I can't unscrew it.

lastly, I don't know any of the correct terminology, so forgive me in advance. but, in my kitchen, i have what looks like a big rectangle recessed in the ceiling in which are 4, 5ft long (approx.) cylinder or tube shaped lights. Covering the lights 3 panels made out of plastic (or plexiglass or something). each panel is approx. 2'x 3'. well, we accidentally broke one, and if anyone can help me with the name (what it's called), so that when i go to home depot, i don't sound like an idiot, i'd sure appreciate it. thanks.

You should probably pull your toilet and turn it upside down to get the pen out, it's probably caught in the internal trap of the toilet and is lodged in there. If it's not in the internal trap then the snake can be inserted into the drain line once the toilet is pulled, sounds like the pen could be lodged in the drain pipe causeing the shower to drain slowly. The pen could be catching all sorts of things and will eventually cause a bigger clog.

You can remove the P-trap under your kitchen sink to reclaim your lost toys, it's fairly simple to remove the two nuts that hold it on. Here's a link that'll show you how

The lights you describe in your kitchen are florescent light fixtures and the plastic cover is just that, a plastic cover.
