  • Tub leaks

When showering no leak is present however when taking a bath the tub leaks into the ajoining room along the floor. Any ideas?

My thoughts is a minimal amount of water is flowing into the drain. With the tub filled the hydrostatic pressure is greater that a static flow so the water will find all the gaps around the waste outlet and waste arm. Only suggestion is to remove the waste fitting and clean off the threaded waste fitting, tub area - apply some plumber's putty and firmly screw the waste fitting back into the waste arms, If you're not too worried about it, a pair of channel lock plier, their handles will fit in between the holes in the waste fitting and with a bar between the handles unscrew the fitting.

It is probably what Hay says. But what is your tub made out of? Steel?: Any rust holes? Fiberglass?: Any hairline cracks?

Do you use a rubber drain hole stopper or is it mechanicly connected to the drain? (You see, if you used a rubber one and you knew that you were absolutely stopping any water at the drain hole, that if it leaks, either it is from the rim of the chrome flange at the bottom of the tub or from one of those other scenarios I mentioned.

Could it also be possible that when you are filling the tub, water is getting on the overflow cover plate when water is pouring in? THIS could be a source of a leak as well. Another source of a tub leak is when tub spouts get worn out at the end and water travels back towards the wall on the underside of the spout and gets in the wall (but this scenario is probably more doubtful).

Do you have easy access to visually looking at the underside of the tub right where the drain exits the tub?..to see if you see water streaks eminating from the gasket area at that location?...or actually catch it leaking there or ? when you fill the tub?
