  • Ring popped off PVC toilet flange

I was being very smart and handy in attempting to remedy a slightly wobbly toilet in my basement laundry room. I replaced wax ring and put toilet back down but when tightening closet bolts, they kept coming up. The toilet didn't seem to be fastened at all. When I removed the toilet again, this time the top part of my PVC flange was stuck to my wax on the bottom of the toilet.

I have new ceramic tile in the room yet the top part of the flange was higher than the flooring. I noticed that the flange ring was not screwed down to concrete ... I guess builder of the house just glued it <?>

Anyway, what can I do to fix it? ... can the ring be forced back onto the rest of the flange? I can't imagine ever being able to get the lower portion of the old flange out ... What should be done here? (Thanks in advance)

Can you see that the flange is broken ?
It sounds to me that the closet flange may have been glued into the waste pipe but someone forgot to screw it down to the subfloor or slab, then when you continue to tighten the toilet bolts something had to give.
A couple of options are if room allows look at getting an external fitting closet flange, there is a tool available that removes the broken flange from inside pipes they are called "Socket Savers". There is also an closet flange that has a rubber gasket on it to allow a good seal when it is used to go in or around waste pipes.
These should all be available at your local hardware store.
Personally I like the Socket Saver for around $15 I don't use it much but it's worth it's weight in gold when I do.
