replacing lead insert

I am replacing a toilet which is on a concrete slab. The existing pipe is 4" cast iron. There is a lead insert which is in the pipe and it comes up over the closet flange. The closet flange is then securely attached to the slab. I am leveling and installing a new tile floor. As a result the existing flange needs to be raised to floor level and the lead insert isn't long enough to come up and over the new flange. Should I try to pry out the existing lead insert and replace it? If not, is there a fix that does not require breaking up the concrete slab and replacing the pipe?

There is a flange adapter/extender that you can buy at a box store or a plumber's supply house.

I have the same problem and have reached the stage of installing the new flange. Unfortunately, after pre-drilling the holes, I still broke the concrete screws.... what am I missing here?? What is the correct way to install the new flange over the first?
