Why would the old Fluidmaster valve in our toilet suddenly start working only intermittently ? Most of the time I have to jiggle it to get it to open. And sometimes it won't work at all, jiggle or no jiggle. When I remove it and operate it manually, it seems to work. The needle moves up and down with the float. And water does flow (blasts right to the ceiling!) through the valve when the top part is removed, so it is not because the supply line is blocked.
I have to fix it because I cannot find a replacement that fits the tank. (see photo)I purchased two different models and both require that the overflow tube must be one inch below a certain mark on the valve. The overflow tube in the tank is too tall for this. I purchased two models, same problem. Is cutting the overflow tube an option?
