  • Toilet re-fills very slowly after flushing

    Hello everyone.

I hope someone can help with my problem. Our toilet flushes fine, no problems with that. However, we noticed that it was taking ages to fill back up again, and when I took the top off I can see that it just seems to spurt out. It takes so long, that we have a jug next to the toilet and are refilling it ourselves from the tap!

What sort of toilet is it? I don't know, I can't find a name on it anywhere. I can say that it is NOT the sort that has the ballcock attached to a pole mechanism. Anyway, if anyone can give me a bit of advise I'd really appreciate it. I'll check back on here later today, if anyone has any questions.

    Thanks in advance (hopefully!)

    Duncan

toilets use four different types of ballcocks. two are of the plastic or brass float with rod, one is an inverted cup and the last is a pressure senstive diaphragm.
the first two are adjusted by bending the brass rod up or down to vary the water level in the tank. the inverted cup uses a spring loaded clip which when squeezed and moved up or down along a guide wire raises or lowers the cup for water level. the last uses an adjustment screw for water level. check to make sure your inlet valve is open all the way. the straight or angle stop - as it's called may be plugged or the seat rubber may be disintegrated.

I would in most cases install a new Fluidmaster 400A to solve this problem.
Some toilets may require a special valve without seeing what you have I can't say for sure.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
      Now I can Plumb!

Did you know some Redwood Pipe is still in service today.

You said it is a fluidmaster, there is a small gasket in the top of the unit that may have to be replaced, you can buy them at home depot for about 3.00 replacing it is simple enough , turn off the water and flush toilet , the top part twists off can be a little stubborn just be careful not to break the plastic when twisting the top off, remove the old gasket/seal and replace it then replace the top turn on water and it should work fine
