hot water tank

Hi there, I shut off my main gas line so I could change my thermo coupler for my furnace.

I forgot to shut off my hot water tank but it eventually went out for lack of gas. when I opened the gas line I then lit my furnace, no problem.

Now I can't get gas to flow or else it's my igniter because I can't see a spark in the viewing glass and I can't light the pilot.

The hot water tank is only 2 years old so it can't be the igniter, but like I said I don't see any spark in the window when I click it. Any ideas? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

set your water heater main valve to PILOT. Press and hold the smaller red button while you light the pilot flame. Continue to hold the button down until the pilot flame stays lit. Once the pilot is lit, turn the main vavle to ON.
