HELP! Strange markings all over the ceiling and walls.

Hello,

I am seeing strange markings on my ceilings and walls.

It seems as if the markings are nsync with the support beams in the roof.

If anyone can identify these pictures and shed some light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Strange markings....

I had the same in my house. I found out that it's simply ions from smoke (fireplace?) that manage to gravitate to where the studs and joists are. Something about temperature differential between the masses of where the wood is at and where it isn't. One good thing: you definitely know where the studs are! Nothing to worry about. Wash it down and paint.

Marks

Roof marks can sometimes indicate leaks in the roof, but I think this was caused by kids.

Or, it could be a mold/mildew problem. Check for other signs of moisture buildup, get a dehumidifier if necessary. Check the gutters for rain management.
