  • Painting/other ideas for ugly fake brick panel

I want to make the fake brick panelling in the kitchen disappear.
It is on the bottom half of the walls, dark, ugly, and was glued to the wall 30 years ago. The top half of the walls are OK, painted white. Removing the brick panelling would damage the sheetrock.
Can I paint it? How ?
    OR cover it somehow?
    Any ideas and How-tos?

I'd go ahead and remove it AND the sheetrock. Putting up new sheet rock would probably be as much work (maybe less) than reworking that brick, plus, you'd have an all new smooth suface to paint as you'd like.

I'de go ahead and carefully remove the faulse brick face, then float a thin set plaster/texture coat over the top of the sheet rock to hide any flaws caused by its removal after first applying a bonding agentto the sheet rock.TAZ
