Painting Interior Brick?

My dining room used to be the garage!!! The previous owners had the bright idea of usinr Brick for the floor and continued with it up to the chair rail!!!! I would like to lighten up this room by painting or white washing all the brick surfaces...I am not sure where to begin...Do I need to prime or seal the brick first? HELP!!!![xx(]

I think a whitewash would be good for this situation. A solid on the floor would show wear after awhile. Your local paint store can direct you on which paint to buy, but you shouldn't have to prime for whitewashing interior brick. Let us know how it turns out.
It is interesting that you have a brick floor in your dining room. I would love to see a picture of it.
