  • Options for covering brick?

I have a brick chimney with a wood stove in my dining room & really want to cover the brick. This is freestanding chimney between my dining room & kitchen so all 4 sides show & I hate it.Has anyone tried putting anything other than paint over the brick? Stucco...etc... I am considering painting it a dark brown & then dry brushing gold highlights over it but would like to know if anyone has any other suggestions.(Has to be a dark color, white/creams won't work)

    Patti,

Welcome to the forum. If you didn't see these posts...There is a great discussion on tips for painting going on here: http://homerepairforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=38 .

If you are going to stucco I would suggest anchoring wire mesh to the existing brick and then applying multiple coats of stucco until you get the look you want. Without the wire mesh it will tend to flake off as the bricks heat and cool.

    Good luck, Jim
