I moved into a new townhouse and had to take down the railing in order to move some stuff upstairs. When I took it down, the holes where it had been secured were huge and now I am unable to put it back on. The wall is sheetrock. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

obviously the railing supports were screwed into the vertical studs through the sheetrock and now the "rock" has weakened and has fallen out. what you can do is repair the sheetrock then install a 1X5 stringer at an angle on the wall, fastening it into the studs then attaching your railing on this stringer. the weight will be distributed along the stringer, not just at the stud areas.
