White washing knotty pine walls

I have three walls of knotty pine. They are a medium caramel color, now, and I want to lighten them up by doing a white wash (patina) on them. Does anybody have suggestions and step by step instructions on what I need to do to get the walls ready to white wash, what products to use, and suggestions on how to do the actual white washing? If you have pictures, too, that would help.
