Children taped pictures to door in rental, moving soon, paint needs fixing

We're renting - 'nuf said.

The children taped pictures to their door awhile back and when I realized what they'd used to stick the pics on, and gently peeled them off, well, of course some of the paint came with them.

Is my best bet to peel off a bit more paint and take it to the local home improvement store and see if they can do a paint color match and then try to fix the spots, and maybe also do a whole coat on the entire door after? The paint appears to be a bit thick...maybe it's been painted a few times over.

That'd probably be your best bet. I think they need a piece thats approximately the size of a quarter to match. The bigger the piece the better they can match. Doing a whole coat on it would ensure that the entire door matched. Theres always a small variance in color depending on the brand and because of the machine. So it may not be a perfect match, but if your strapped for time then just patching the spots you need may cover it up enough to get by.
