  • Wall covering for kitchen

    Hi everyone!

I was wondering what are some good options for covering kitchen walls apart from tiles. Something that can withstand the kitchen heat and all the grease. It should be easy to clean, thank you for any suggestions.

Hi. There are actually many options DK. Here's a simple, straightforward list of options for you:

    1. Glass panels - Easy to clean, looks modern
    2. Stainless steel - Tough, good for a pro look
    3. Acrylic panels - Cheap, lots of colors
    4. Stone veneer - Looks natural, but pricey
    5. Special kitchen paint - Made to handle messes
    6. PVC panels - Water-resistant, easy to put up
    7. Brick or fake brick - Rustic look, needs sealing
    8. Kitchen wallpaper - Get the vinyl kind
    9. Beadboard - Classic look, paint it with tough paint
    10. Concrete - For an industrial feel, seal it well

Let me know if you want to know more about one.

      Thanks, Gardenboy!

Could you suggest some durable options from this list? Since we're a big family and our kitchen gets a lot of use throughout the day, durability is really important.

You're welcome. Sure, with a big family, you need something that can handle daily wear and tear. Here are the most durable options from that list:
        1. Stainless steel Really tough and can take a beating. It's what they use in restaurant kitchens.
        2. Glass panels Surprisingly durable and super easy to clean. Just watch out for hard impacts.
        3. PVC panels These are pretty sturdy and resist water well. Good for busy kitchens.
        4. Concrete (sealed) If done right, it's incredibly durable. But make sure it's sealed properly.
        5. Special kitchen paint Get a high-quality one. It won't be as tough as the others, but it's easy to touch up.

These should hold up well to your family's daily cooking adventures.

Thanks, I think the special kitchen paint sounds like the most economical option from this list.

You're right on the money there. Special kitchen paint is definitely the most budget-friendly choice, and it's pretty practical too. For starters, it's much cheaper than installing new materials, and you can probably tackle the job yourself if you're handy, which saves even more money. One of the great things about paint is how easy it is to update – if you fancy a change in a few years, you can just paint over it. You've also got tons of color options, so matching your style shouldn't be a problem. Maintenance is pretty low-key too, as good quality kitchen paint cleans up well with just a wipe.

Just remember to get paint that's specifically designed for kitchens, as it'll stand up to moisture and grease better than regular paint. And don't skimp on the prep work – give those walls a good clean and use a quality primer. It'll help your paint job last longer.
