I need to replace some exterior wall siding. To do so, you need to unscrew the top 6 inch wide aluminum cap that covers the top of siding boards. IT's old and moldy and should be replaced. But this isn't a size in width you can just go to Home Depot and get. Attached is photo to show what I'm talking about. I'm open for any original ideas on using something in it's place as long as it keeps water from going under the top of external wall siding of course. : )

Yeah, that piece looks like an older custom cap, and you're right, you probably won't find a 6-inch aluminum replacement at Home Depot. One good workaround is using aluminum flashing rolls. They come in wider sizes, are easy to cut and bend, and once painted, they can blend in pretty well. You could also try using drip edge or Z-flashing, depending on how clean of a look you're going for. If you're open to a non-metal option, PVC trim boards can work too. They're weather resistant, easy to cut to size, and you can seal the top with some good exterior caulk to keep water out. If you're trying to match the original look more closely, it might be worth checking with a local sheet metal or gutter shop. They can usually bend a custom piece to your specs, and the cost is often pretty reasonable. The main thing is just making sure whatever you use keeps water from getting behind the siding.

Thanks! I did take a look at what Home Depot has and I guess I can jerry rig something together. The Aluminum roll seems like a good option too. Thanks for your advice.
I'll post what I end up using and a photo. Will be a month or so before I tackle this project. But it's happening for sure.
