  • nail gun nails and building code question

Building code calls for 16D COMMON Nails. However I am unable to find any nails for my gun (Bostitch 28 degree wire collated) that meet the 16D Common specifications (3-1/2" long 0.162 diameter). Best I can find is 0.131 diameter. This is closer to a Box (0.135) nail and not a Common nail. What does one do if he wants to be code compliant?

    Thanks

Buy a gun that uses full head nails. Porter Cable makes an FR350 that is a full head nail. All others I've seen, bostitch, paslode, hitachi all have "D" head or clipped head nails. Some jurisdictions allow them, a lot do not and specify a full head nail. The piston on the D head nailguns is shaped like a T and contacts the nailhead at the X of the T. This is so they can group more nails into the strip by clipping the nailhead. The full head nailer has a round piston and pretty much contacts the whole nail head.
