  • Porch roof?

    hello all,
I just had a question about my porch project that has turned into a longer one than I thought.

One problem is the point where the porch juts out from the house roof at the top of the exterior stairs - when it rains the water runs off the sloped edge of the porch roof onto the top step. Caulking the house roof eaves where it ends at the porch roof didn't help - not sure what else to try. Wondering if the porch roof needs eaves along the sloped edge?

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have, Sam.

They make a piece of galvanized metal that nails down under the shingles on a slight angle (to drain) that stops your problem. It's available at Lowe's or Home Depot in the roofing section with the drip edge etc....
Make sure you use sparingly any nails and that they are galvanized nails. Make sure all the nails are under a shingle and for good measure apply a dab of asphalt sealer (available at the same big box store in a tube) to the tops of each nail head. If you have to have exposed nails it is imperative to use the asphalt sealer on exposed nails.
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
