The dormer roof is low pitch - about 1/6. The rolled roofing that's up there has been folded neatly back, every course! There was felt or some material under the asphalt roll that protected us for a while, but today the roof started leaking.
I did a lot of Googling to find information about how rolled roofing is applied - finally on page 3 or so I found a Black & Decker book with actual pictures of the procedure and it looks like something a DIYer with a full toolbox could do.
(You would think DIY websites would include pictures. Most don't. Useless!)
I stopped by the local DIY store to get pricing on materials. I'll call a proper roofing supply this week.
I have a few questions that I'd like answers to before I call; don't want to sound like a total noob, after all.
1. Roofing nails. Capped or not, and why?
2. 30# roofing felt. Yes? No? If yes, then how?
Lastly, as a stop gap measure - rain is forecast for the next three days - I'm going to tarp that section of the roof. Any advice?
