  • Garage door safety sensor - makes parking a problem.

We live in a small apartment block and our car space is just next to the garage door. One of the two door safety sensors is protrudes for 20cm from the wall (it is fixed onto some kind of pole) and for my wife (whos is not very experienced driver yet) it makes a reverse parking in a narrow parking space a real hell.

    Pictures of that sensor:

    (please see attachment below)

The other sensor which is on the opposite side of the door - does not protrude that much:

    (please see attachment below)

So I was wondering - if I can just move the first photo sensor a bit closer to the wall - will it continue to work?
Or to replace these bulky sensors with the more slimer ones - e.g. as in
    (please see attachment below)

Any ideas would be really appreciated - thank you for your time.

its mounted where it is for ease in installation. you can mount it anyplace you want as long as the light's path hits the receiver.

the sensors should be installed as close to the door as possible, and no more than 6-8" off of the ground. So as long as nothing on the door will cross the path of the eyes, you can put it as close as you want to the door.

I wouldn't recommend switching to a different sensor

By the looks of that picture it appears that you have a commercial grade opener which is likely not compatible with the smaller residential sensors
