I just replaced the motor in my Genie Pro Stealth garage door opener (GDE) because the gear stripped out. ($70 on eBay!) I bolted the new motor in and used the momentary button on the back of the GDE to set the upper limit of the door with no problems. When trying to set the lower limit, the door would get within 6" of the bottom and then reverse direction back to the top.
Scratching my head, I tried messing with the low-end set screw on the back of the GDE, but it didn't matter. Same thing would keep happening. It was at this time that I noticed that I couldn't close the door using the remote or the button on the wall. It is as if the GDE thinks that something is blocking the safety laser. I climbed down from my ladder and saw that the red light on one of the safety laser boxes was flashing red as if it was sensing something blocking it. The other laser box had a constant green light. I messed with the alignment, but couldn't fix the red flashing light.
I jumped the terminals on the GDE to trick it into thinking it had a clear shot, but that didn't change anything. When using the remote or the wall button the door will momentarily move down about an inch, then go up all the way.
Since I have two identical garage door openers I swapped two of the circuit boards over thinking that maybe a component burned out, but everything worked fine on the 2nd GDE, so I ruled out bad circuit boards. I also checked connections and I couldn't see anything different on GDE #1.
One last clue. There is a large wheel that turns in the back of the unit that is used for setting the upper and lower limits. When the door starts to lower it starts from resting over the upper position switch and moves at half speed until it hits a 2nd position switch that triggers full speed. When the door gets near the bottom it hits a 3rd switch that should slow it down to 1/2 speed until it hits the 4th position switch that stops it from lowering any more. Well, when the 3rd and 4th switches are pushed the door doesn't slow or stop. I checked to make sure the switches are working and they are. The signal is getting to the circuit board, it's just not reacting to it.
Spent four hours today on something that should have been a 15 minute job and I finally gave up in disgust. Can anybody help me?
