  • Improperly installed Garage Door.

my uncle removed our old wooden garage door 5 years ago, and installed a new one, but there was a power outtage so i had to pull down the garage door by hand, i put too much force on it. The Operator limped to one side.

That was when i noticed he had only screwed the support bracket bolts directly into the drywall on one side, the side that had been secured to the stud was fine, but the side that was directly into the drywall was ripped strait out, i grabbed the bolt and screwed it into a new hole but its only a temporary fix i know sooner or later, the weight will rip the bolt out again, is there a fastener or anchor of some sort i can use to secure it?

I also noticed another problem, the pulley and cable above the garage is improperly secured, it seems he got a piece of wood, bolted the pulley and cable to it, then he nailed it into place, i notice the top nails are starting to get pulled out, and i noticed its also is not secured to a stud, so its nails into dry wall without a stud behind it, should i just nail it back in place, but im sure it will just come out again since its nails in drywall.

should i just hire someone to properly secure it to the wall, before i hurt myself if it falls on me, or can someone steer in the correct direction as to what to buy, or how to properly secure it, both of them are unsecured to drywall, one is ceiling drywall and the other is wall drywall, thank you for reading.

I know this is an old thread but i think you should consult a professional garage door company! Please post results.

      Garage Door Installation

My friend James also installed garage door himself, but after one month door was not opened, he called to garage door repair professional, he came and solve this problem in very short time.

teenaford.........thats great!! Thats the way its supposed to be done. A garage door repair company is the way to go when dealing with garage doors. They are dangerous to work on if you dont know what you are doing!!

I think home installation probably in most cases leads to the need for pre-mature garage door repair. It seems better to just let put that cost out there initially. Especially since garage door installation can be really dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.
