Depending on the height of your door whether it is 8' tall or 7' tall, you can purchase the according size. It does not matter if you buy a 1/2 H/P or a 3/4, as longer as the door is balanced properly either size motor will do fine. Chamberlain/Liftmaster makes a good machine, and Overhead Doors new line of Odyssey and Destiny DC direct drive machines are excellent, I have found to have had quite a bit of luck with those machines. They have few moving parts, and a totally enclosed boom. Also they are extremely quiet.

How do I know what size garage door opener to buy when it needs to be replaced? Also, what brand garage door will last the longest?
