Garage tries to open again when it's already open

The garage door seems to open fine, but when I go to close it later, I hit the button and it opens up a few inches and then stops. If I hit the button again, it closes fine. It only seems to do it if there is a good amount of time between open and close. If I open it and close it back to back it seems to work fine.

Thoughts?

Check your door for broken spring and balance.
Section overhead doors has the springs above the door. Close the door and look at the spring/s if you see a gap about 2" in between the coils = broken spring. With the door closed pull the emergency release and open close the door by hand. You should be able to do so without any major effort and the door should stay by itself about half open.
The door might be very heavy at full open and "back wind" the opener and drop down a little.
