  • What is this buclking from?

We had this 11'0" x 7'0" Artisan Benchmark Carriage garage door installed in March 2014. By July, one of the panels showed a buckle. The manufacturers rep sent out 2 new replacement panels 6+ months later which did not match the manufacturing "V" grooves, so they sent out a factory tech to do an in the field modification. Bottom line it looked worse, did not match and the replacement panels did not line up with the top panels.

Manufacturers rep came back, has offered to replace complete door or "upgrade" to a different line for additional $1100+ (original door was $3,700).

New offered upgrade door (Prelude) is cellular vinyl face boards and flat panels on a steel insulated frame. Specs are: Frame consists of 4-layer construction, thick double sided24 gauge steel insulated flush frame with baked-on polyester paint finish, and 5- ”thick cellular vinyl overlay trim boards for overall thickness of 2 ”. Face boards are mechanically-fastened together using hidden pocket hole screws for weather-tight joints, then are bonded to the steel frame. Face board dimensions: 5- ” end stiles/window rails; 5- bottom rail. Window grilles are 1- wide cellular vinyl with milled profiled edges. Top section height is 28”. 3-sections high for 7'models,4-sections for 8'. L-shaped bottom aluminum retainer and rubber seal.

Original door (Benchmark) specs are: Frame section: 1-1/4”thick, MDO panels: 3/8”thick, Urethane foam core: R value of 9.1, Extira face frame: 3/4”thick with profiled edges, Overlay boards: 5-3/4”width, Overall section thickness: 2”, Interior back: 1/4” mahogany plywood, Exterior grill: simulated divided lites, Finish: comes standard factory primed; optional white latex paint top coat.

We like the look of the wood, not the fake looking PVC/Azek glued over steel look.

Opinions as to why the door failed in 4 months, if the same problem may happen again, advantages or disadvantages to either of the 2 models....????
