Genie Garage Door Opener Won't Shut Off

The Genie lifted the garage door and wouldn't stop running. I had to unplug it. If I plug it in again, it goes on and won't stop. Why? I have disconnected the door opener at this point and work the door manually.

your garage door opener probably has a broken up limit switch. If you look at the carriage on the rail. it should hit an object that is designed to trigger and electrical signal identifying that the door is up and needs to stop. I am assuming you have a screw drive. This shouldn't be that expensive, less than 100 dollars, but i would recommend a better opener.
