  • Garage door opener stops

    Hello,

We have a 3/4 hp Chamberlain opener on our door. It's a 2 car garage, single door. Recently, a malfunction of some kind occurred where the door will start to open for a few seconds, then the motor will stop and the door will lower slowly to the ground. This particular problem is not explicitly talked about in the manual, so I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before I pay a technician. I read in other posts that a properly adjusted door should open manually with "two fingers". I can't do that with this door, which makes me think maybe their is a problem with the springs?

    Thanks

    springs

sounds like springs, but that opener should brake when the motor stops effectively, hold the door up. IF the rail is bowed from the wight of the door it is probabbly springs. I have not seen many problems with this opener, but it is ralatively new to the market.

Thanks. The rail doesn't appear to be bowed, so I'll focus on the springs.
