I have a 2001 Chamberlain GDO that I'm having remote issues with. I've tried replacing the battery & bought a new remote & still have the same issue. I can open the garage door with the remote from inside the garage and even from INSIDE THE HOUSE & it works every time, but if I am in front of the garage door (metal) the remote will not work! Please help!

I have had some success with lengthening the antenna on the motor unit. Just extend it across the top of the garage door. The problem is that their is most likely some interference, or another device that is overpowering the small signal sent from your remote.
It could be many things. Have you purchased any new electronic equipment, moved any around the house, or live near a military base?
I have seen one garage door opener interfere with another when only replacing one unit. You can test devices by unplugging them and trying the remote.
Word of caution, your motor has a device to prevent overheating. Running the motor several times in a row may end up activating this thermal protection and shut down the motor till it cools off. I would suggest checking a few things per hour.
The other day I ran an older motor about 10 times and blew the starting capacitor, so it is best to take it slowly, and not wear out the opener by overheating it.

Thanks for the advice. I just moved into the house so it could be anything ...but nothing is plugged in the garage except the GDO so I'm not sure about interference and I don't live near a military base...if I wanted to try extending the antenna wire can you tell me what type of wire I will need to use? I've also heard that lengthening the antenna TOO long can also cause problems. Would you know anything about that?
