  • Garage paint

My garage interior was painted with standard white primer and after 12 years I decided to paint the walls and ceiling. I used an inexpensive interior paint which caused the origional white primer to peel off the sheetrock. It started with the ceiling and then part of the walls. Any ideas ??

couple questions. so it was primed but never painted? If that is the case primer will fail if not topcoated. If its a oil primer should topcoat no longer than 48hrs and if its latex no longer than a week. Primer is not paint it is not made to be scrub, clean or last not top coated. I would clean with tsp its cheap 3-4bucks and will prep the surface us a brush to remove any loose paint. then I would prime with a latex primer such as kilz or zinnser123 or sealgrip from ppg. just dont use a nomal drywall primer you need extra bonding. then topcoat with a latex paint.
    hope this helped
