    Roof conversion and Rain timeline

Hi everyone, I'm planning a roof conversion from flat (modified bit) to pitched with shingles on my 1500sq duplex in Houston, and I'm looking for some advice. After a long wait, the city finally approved my project. However, my contractor, who isn't from a specializedRoofing company in Arlington VA but has experience in Houston, claims we need 10 consecutive days without rain to start working.

Is this a common requirement, or is my contractor being overly cautious? I'm wondering if there's a way to temporarily cover the roof during the process to prevent any rain damage to the sheetrock, especially since the city needs to inspect the work at certain stages.

Would love to hear your thoughts or any suggestions you might have. Thanks!
