There are so many options when it comes to purchasing light bulbs for your home. Read this handy guide to figure out what exactly you need!
For table lamps and floor lamps: halogen incandescent bulbs. This type of bulb provides a warm glow by shining light in all directions. Most of them are dimmable, thus saving energy and money. Halogen lights generally use 20-30% less energy than other bulbs.
For recessed lighting (think kitchen, living rooms, etc.): LED bulbs. These are the most energy efficient bulbs, so they're good for high use areas. They have a long life, so you really get your money's worth. These bulbs shine light in one direction, rather than multiple. This produces a brighter light which is what you want from overhead lighting.
You'll also want to use LEDs for stairwells, as well as fixtures that are inconvenient to fix. The long life of the LED bulb is great so you don't have to struggle with those difficult places.
For appliances that you don't use often, you obviously want to get the cheapest bulb you can find. Since you don't get much use out of it, don't invest money into the fancier bulbs.
Good luck bulb hunting!
