The last couple of posts have been fairly bug-centric, but bugs are a problem in the summer time! I promise this will be the last one (at least for a little while).

Of all the bugs in the world, I think mosquitoes have to be one of the worst. They're tiny, hard to see, hard to kill, and hard to get away from. Not to mention the itchy bite they leave.

Store bought mosquito repellents can get pricey and they have some questionable chemicals in them. They also smell pretty bad, as well. Luckily I found a recipe for a homemade version of mosquito repellent and it looks like it will at least smell better!

All you need is lavender essential oil, citronella essential oil, vanilla extract, and lemon essential oil. Mix the following amounts together in a spray bottle:
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops of citronella essential oil
  • 3 – 4 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4-5 Tbsp. Lemon Juice or 5 drops of lemon essential oil

Use as you would regular store-bought bug spray. You may have to apply more frequently since it doesn't have the strength of the chemicals in the store bought kind, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for good-smelling and effective bug spray!
