We've all had something weird show up in our washing machine and/or dryer. Usually it's something like coins or bobby pins that can easily be removed by plucking it out and moving on. However, sometimes the removal process is a bit more involved, especially if it's chewing gum that's gotten stuck to the inside of your washing machine. Luckily, I've found an easy process to get that sticky mess out of there!
You'll need ice, a plastic utensil (like a plastic fork, or even a credit card), cleaning rags, and powder laundry detergent.
Step 1: Hold an ice cube against the gum area until the gum hardens.
Step 2: Chip the gum away with your plastic utensil of choice. Don't use metal, it can scratch and damage the wall of the washer.
Step 3: Wet your cleaning rage with hot tap water and hold it against the gum area until any remaining gum begins to soften up.
Step 4: Combine about 1 tablespoon of the powdered laundry detergent and about half a tablespoon of water. This will form a paste. Scrub the remaining gum using the rag and the paste.
Step 5: Wipe the now-gum-free area down to remove any remaining gunk. You might want to run the washer through a complete cycle just to be extra sure there's no remaining gum in there.
Follow these steps and you're on your way to a gum free washer!
